Brian's considerable output of vocal music can easily be overlooked, but this recital by Brian Rayner Cook and Roger Vignoles with seventeen of his early songs proves that if we do so, we miss some impressive music, for Brian had a sensitive instinct for word setting and for the creation of neat and expressive piano accompaniments. His considerable list of choral music and songs show his attraction to a wide range of poetry.
