QUITE SUPERB
Julian Jacobson plays Beethoven, heard by BILL NEWMAN
Julian Jacobson began his recital [7 December 2011 at The Forge, Camden Town, London UK] with the last of Beethoven's three 'Bonn' Sonatas -- in D major, WoO47, No 3, composed at the age of twelve. He described it as 'assured -- and in some ways the least personal. The writing is skilful, and he is not afraid to play around with form in the first movement. The second movement is a Theme with Variations, and the Scherzando finale has more character.'
