The nylon-string guitar of Tony R Clef -
heard by HOWARD SMITH'... extraordinary recorded clarity.'

Tony R Clef's polymer strings are so closely miked that extraneous clicks and slides bring his fretboard into almost palpable relief and the uniform 'in your face' volume limits dramatic and poetic nuances such as one hears in performances by John Williams, Narcisco Yepes, Romero Lubambo, Sharon Isbin, Alirio Diaz and Andre Segovia.
Consequently Big Round's focus on performance mechanics (as if through the Hubble Telescope) may prove off-putting for those accustomed to the smooth command of Norbert Kraft, Denis Azabagic, Angel Romero, Christopher Parkening, Sergio Assad and Liona Boyd.
Clef's gain, for those who would have every nut and bolt in bold relief, is in audio fidelity and extraordinary recorded clarity.
It seems Clef was approached by the A&R department of Parma Recordings about making a record...
