Alexander Romanovsky plays Haydn and Rachmaninov, heard by MIKE WHEELER
Transport problems meant Alexander Romanovsky had to cancel his scheduled appearance in last year's Nottingham Royal Concert Hall Sunday morning piano series, so it was good to be able to welcome him this time (Nottingham, UK, 27 November 2011).
He began by taking a rather Beethovenian view of Haydn's Piano Sonata in E flat, H XVI 52, especially of the second movement. But there was a nice balance of power and delicacy in his playing and, in general, an alertness to Haydn's mischievous mood changes...
