Verdi's 'Nabucco' in HD from Sicily, enjoyed by MARIA NOCKIN
On 9 August 2011, Opera in Cinema, a division of Emerging Pictures, transmitted Giuseppe Verdi's third opera, Nabucco, to the United States from the ancient theater in Taormina, Sicily. The site of the city was already inhabited when the Greeks arrived in 832 BCE. The theater, which is second in size only to the one in Syracusa, was constructed in the Hellenistic era using a natural hillside for its seating area. Later, the theater was reconstructed by the Romans for gladitorial shows. Nineteenth century restorers erected the columns we see today...
