Peter Litman plays the organs of Derby Cathedral, heard by MIKE WHEELER
Peter Litman, Organist and Choirmaster at St Peter's Collegiate Church, Ruthin, North Wales, opened his recital, the last in Derby Cathedral's 2011 summer series (Derby, UK, 24 August 2011), with J S Bach's Toccata in F, BWV 540. Though some details lacked clarity, there was a firm grasp of the music's architecture.
Guilmant's Marche Religieuse (commonly but misleadingly known as 'March on Handel's "Lift up your Heads"') was properly subdued (not many players get that right, either), and the fugue glittered all the more brightly in contrast...
