A remarkable historic documentary from post Depression and pre-war America. The City (1939) contrasts increasingly chaotic metropolitan life with planned greenbelt cities.
Its script by American historian of technology and science, Lewis Mumford (1895-1990), reflects Mumford's acclaimed study of cities and urban architecture. His theories are fully expressed in Technics and Civilization (1934) and The City in History (1961).
This thesis also echoes the work of British urban planner, Sir Ebenezer Howard (1850-1928)...
