A really delightful concert at the City Literary Institute, Holborn in Central London, UK: Trevor Alexander, baritone, with Peter Crockford, piano, presented the Early Songs of Roger Quilter to an appreciative audience as part of the excellent Tuesday Lunchtime Concert series, on 10 May 2011.
Trevor Alexander, a member of the Vocal Faculty at City Lit, brought lyrical richness and engaging characterisation to some of the gems of the English song repertoire, introducing each set with fascinating historical context. Peter Crockford, director of City Opera, drew orchestral richness from the piano accompaniments, highlighting the ravishing modulations and inner parts and eliciting exciting momentum in the often virtuoso textures underpinning the soaring vocal lines...
