Mahler, Weber and Strauss at Derby Cathedral,

I still have fond memories of Derby Concert Orchestra's shattering performance of Mahler's Sixth Symphony some years ago. While their account of No 5 may not have quite hit the same heights (Derby Cathedral, 12 March 2011), a finely-paced first movement held a promise of good things to come, which was largely fulfilled. The second movement quickly recovered from a slightly awkward start, although there was some loss of focus towards the end...
