Many a great poet, from the legendary Homer onwards, has been blind, but only a handful of great composers. Rodrigo's life spanned the whole of the twentieth century, but training in Spain and Paris steered him clear of the Schoenbergian nightmare and its drearier implications. These three works are indeed a magnificent celebration of his native Spain, vital enough to dispel any blues caused by a tottering economy and a joyous justification for bidding farewell to the ill-fated euro and restoring a peseta that could be devalued ad infinitum...
