Better Late than Never

'Better late than never' might have been the most charitable comment to make of the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe's Late Summer Festival at Regent Hall [13 September until 1 October 2010, London, UK]. Readers may recall that it had to be postponed until mid-September while the hall was closed for major refurbishment. By the time the music-making began, any excuse for summer had long since departed. Work had overrun the promised finishing date so that men in hard hats wielding drills and hammers were still much in evidence.
To make matters worse, the opening concert by the Cerulean Piano Trio, prizewinners of the 2nd International Ernest Bloch Competition, had to be replaced at short notice through their cellist managing to damage his finger...
