Bach was always ready to rethink his music. Secular cantatas could be refurbished for the Christmas Oratorio; keyboard concertos or a solo violin movement might turn up in cantatas; concertos would swap solo instruments; and the first of these gamba sonatas may have originated in a work for two flutes, while the last movement was certainly transcribed for organ. So there is not the slightest objection when the artists on this CD discover their fourth sonata in a transcription from one of the organ trio sonatas...
