Firmly in Period
Grange Park Opera's 'Madama Butterfly', reviewed by ROBERT HUGILL
Grange Park Opera presented John Doyle's production of Madama Butterfly at their theatre at Nevill Holt, Leicestershire, UK, this summer, with further performances at The Grange in Hampshire. They brought the production to London's Cadogan Hall for one performance (seen Wednesday 22 September 2010). Inevitably it was a somewhat stripped down presentation, costumes, props and some lighting but no sets. But the cast was composed of Grange Park Opera's Rising Stars, so this London outing provided a very effective showcase for their young talents.
Designer Mark Bailey's costumes were entirely traditional and the piece was firmly in period...
