If you want these pieces, you can't go far wrong -- the original 1992 Denon album received a Gramophone award and a Grammy nomination. This re-release adds a work by the Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck thus addressing a criticism that the Denon CD should have contained additional material.
The three composers represented were born in the 1880s. Each began composing in the idiom of the late Romantics but soon developed more modern and individual styles. Surprisingly, though Webern became the most radical of the three, his Langsamer Satz is the most conservative piece here...
