Christopher Herrick at Derby Cathedral, heard by TONY WESTERMAN
The international reputation of Christopher Herrick as a world-class recitalist brought a large audience to Derby Cathedral for the penultimate recital of the summer series. Rebuilt by John Compton in 1939, the cathedral organ is an incredibly flexible instrument and Mr Herrick explored all of its considerable tonal resources -- especially the collection of high-pressure reeds, with which he produced several thunderous climaxes.
There was, however, much more to Mr Herrick's playing than mere volume...
