A VIGOROUS ACCOUNT
Peter Gould at the organ of Derby Cathedral,
heard by MIKE WHEELER
Derby Cathedral's Master of the Music Peter Gould chose a mostly French programme for his recital (Derby Cathedral, Derby, UK, 4 August 2010) beginning with Langlais' Esquisse Gothique No 3, for which he was joined by colleague Tom Corfield on the retro-choir organ. There were infectiously swaying rhythms in the outer sections, while the central one, based on the Salve Regina plainsong, was full of atmosphere.
The only non-Gallic piece in the advertised programme was the second of J S Bach's Trio Sonatas, BWV 526...
