I don't know if Francis Jackson would thank me for describing him as a living legend, but to be still playing at all at 92, let alone with such clear-sighted vigour, is a remarkable achievement. The technique may be a touch fallible every now and then, but the interpretative mind is as alert and focused as ever -- witness his performance [on 21 July 2010] of J S Bach's B minor Prelude and Fugue, BWV 544, a blend of robustness and transparency in which you could hear just where each individual line was going.
He began with two plainsong preludes by Healey Willan, prefacing them with reminiscences of the composer...
