The Hallé Orchestra ends
Nottingham's orchestral season,
heard by MIKE WHEELER
Just as the Hallé ended Derby's 2009-10 orchestral concert season a few weeks ago, so they did, with Cristian Mandeal conducting this time, for Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall (Nottingham, UK, 5 June 2010).
Ravel's Bolero was common to both programmes, but this was a performance of greater extremes. The opening sounded as it was coming from a considerable distance away, and there was a sharper sense of the piece moving like an inexorable machine...
