BILL NEWMAN comments on some recent concerts at London's Wigmore Hall
Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato's song recital with pianist David Zobel at London's Wigmore Hall on 28 January 2010 was a sensation in every sense of the word. Not since Supervia has there been vocal artistry of this calibre, and after the final Rossini coloratura aria, I had the feeling that she could have gone on all night. Bravissima!
Renaud Capuçon, violin, Gerard Causse, viola, Gautier Capuçon, cello and Nicholas Angelich, piano, produced finely graded Brahms chamber music performances with exactly the right degree of rubato to match the loving caresses of playing, on 16 and 18 February 2010. I felt Brahms, the connoisseur and perfectionist, had come alive once more to grace us with his marvellous taste and sublime humour...
