Derby Concert Orchestra's sixtieth birthday,
with MIKE WHEELER

 

Derby Concert Orchestra celebrated its sixtieth birthday in style on Saturday (Derby Cathedral, Derby, UK, 5 March 2010). The concert began with two pieces from the very first concert, in March 1950 -- a spirited, high-kicking account of Suppé's Pique Dame Overture, and a delicately shaded reading of the Nocturne from Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream score.
