Here's something of a rarity; an up-to-the-minute opera DVD from somewhere other than Covent Garden, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera (Cardiff), Scottish Opera (Glasgow), or Aldeburgh and Almeida Opera Festivals (Suffolk/London).

Now it's West Yorkshire's turn to preserve Opera North's 2007 staging of The Adventures of Pinocchio, Jonathan Dove's 21st century fantasy opera with twenty nine characters, a sizeable chorus and full symphonic score, directed by Martin Duncan, featuring Victoria Simmonds in the title role, and both orchestra and chorus conducted by David Parry.English Touring Opera and the City of Birmingham Touring Opera (now Birmingham Opera Company). A highlight of his work was the eighteen-player two-evening adaptation of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen for CBTO (1990). From 2001 till 2006, Dove was artistic director of the Spitalfields Festival....
